Back home

I had a good time in the UK - it was bit emotional seeing family but good to catch up. That being said  it was also a nice reminder that I do not wish to live there anymore although I miss Costa coffee and various food stuffs. Lattes taste better with UK milk for some reason.. it’s all in the cow.

Despite my crowing about UK food I was pretty restrained - had a lot of cheese (non-plastic kind) and some crisps (wonderful various flavours) and a lot of coffee. Oh and it was nice walking everywhere too actually.

I have jetlag - been up since 4am which blows.. I should have taken some sleeping pills.. cause now tonight I will have to force myself to stay up past 5pm. Stupid jetlag. I was fine on the way there as I was
lucky enough to have 3 seats to myself so I lay down (hoorah for being short) and slept so I arrived in the UK mentally at least in their time zone. Flying at night has to be done from now on.. the flight back was at 5pm but arrived back in LA at 830pm (same day as you gain time flying back) and that’s the bitch for me even though most people find jetlag worse flying east.

Flying during the day means two things on flights - a lot of kids and a lot of movie watching.. if experience has taught me anything about flying it’s watch light hearted movies in the rom-com / fam-com genres. Why I don’t know exactly but my theory stems from that time I saw Moulin Rouge on a plane and became the only person in the world that hated it. As I have nothing better to do at 5am on a Friday morning here are my plane movie reviews..

P.S: I Love You - Bit of a sharp change in genre for Oscar winner Hilary Swank who stars in this rom-com about a woman whose husband dies but leaves her these various tasks to get over her devastating lost. This movie is pretty good actually although why are American movie writers obsessed with Irish and NYC? I think in this case the writer was hoping for a free trip to Ireland during filming.

27 Dresses - As a bride-to-be (gag) I am naturally obsessed with all things bridal, I am told it will pass. Okay I don’t get the current obsession with Katherine Heigl - I am sure she is a very nice person if you know her (other than her looks I supposed) because she is basically the same person in this movie as she was in Knocked Up. Heigl’s co-star Malin Akerman has a massive gob that would make Cameron Diaz jealous. If you watched ten minutes of this movie, then wrote down on a piece of paper what happens next over and do that over again you could turn this movie into a fun game. I like rom-com’s don’t get me wrong but this isn’t a very good one. Dare I say it but Jennifer Lopez’s Wedding Planner was a better wedding rom-com.

Dan In Real Life - Dan a agony aunt for parenting whose wife died four years goes to family weekend in Rhode Island and falls in love with his brother’s new girlfriend. There now you don’t need to watch it. In all seriousness Steve Carrell pretty much saves this movie although I think he should write in a ‘no dancing clause’ into all future movie contracts - the old Steve can’t dance joke is wearing thin.

Asterix At The Olympic Games - Fucking awful the French should be ashamed of making this movie. Read the wonderful books when you get off the plane instead.

The Bucket List - Jack Nicholson stars as himself with the wonderful Morgan Freeman in this movie about two terminally ill men dealing with their impending death and unfulfilled dreams. This movie starts off slow, gets better - loses it in the middle and then saves itself in the end.  It’s bit of a tear-jerker (not surprising given the premise) but luckily I am comfortable enough with myself to bawl in front of strangers.

Enfin Veuve (A Widow At Last) - At risk of sounding like a big pretentious show off, I love French comedies - the French have a slightly offbeat humor that I just love for some reason. This comedy is about a woman whose bad tempered husband dies, finally freeing her to be with her lover until her well meaning family get in the way in a comedy of errors. Worth watching.

And then my plane landed.. it’s good to be back - hope to catch up with all my blog friends soon.

    Welcome home!

I thought The Bucket List was a pleasant little reminder to smile… and to never 1) Pass up a public restroom; 2) Waste a hard-on; 3) Trust a fart. Or something like that!

Hope LA is treating you right!
